Peacock Grouper - Invasive Fish of Hawaii

Posted by Venture Wetsuits on

While you're out spearfishing on Hawaii reefs you'll take notice of this fish known as Roi, or Peacock Grouper. It is an invasive fish in Hawaiian Waters because it was introduced in the 1950s from French Polynesia to help boost fish stocks. Little did we know that instead of boosting the fish stocks it would eat over 150 small reef fish a year and cause severe damage to our fisheries. Do you part as a fisherman and spear-fisherman and help eliminate Roi from the reef. A little goes a long way. Heres a short educational video on Roi. Enjoy!
