How To Change & Tune Your Speargun Shaft Flopper
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
After bending my shaft KAP Speargun Shaft on a 42.7lb Giant Trevally or Ulua (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uep6E...) as we call it in Hawai'i, I had to order a new shaft. Normally when you buy a new speargun shaft the flopper is already installed on the bottom of the shaft but from as long as I can remember I always shot my spearguns with a flopper on the top. It's just preference and what I'm used to I guess. I feel like I land more fish this way. Every time I buy a new shaft I always flip the flopper and this is...
Rigging A Flasher On Your Speargun
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
Any type of advantage to get fish swim closer to you is the difference between shooting a fish or watching it swim by. All my guns have these flashers rigged on them and just by shaking the gun helps bring fish a little closer. If you watch some of my other spearfishing videos closely you can tell. I get asked a lot if it tangles in your shooting line or reel line and the answer is no. I've used these on all my guns for as long as I can remember and have had no such issues. The flasher has...

General Maintenance on Penn Fishing Reels
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
As a kid I grew up surfing and fishing and didn't really get into spearfishing until right out of high school. Mainly I was dunking and whipping. Although I didn't catch too often I always enjoyed throwing out the lines while hanging out with family and friends. I can clearly remember my first Ugly Stick fishing pole and Penn Fishing Reel. Because it was what I grew up, it's still what I use today. As I started to learn different techniques such as jigging and plugging I still kept to the ugly stick and Penn Reel combo. Gary introduced me...
Changing Your Speargun Bands
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
After many dives, many misses & many fish landed you'll eventually have to change your bands on your speargun. You can take it to local dive shop or you can do it yourself once you have all the proper rigging gear. If you're like me, I don't know how to tie my bands good so I called up the boys to kick it and had Troy (@tkmaeda) tie them for me, but at the same time teach me in detail how to change my bands. Next time i'll have to give it a try myself. A message from Troy: *This...
