Moʻolelo — Spearfishing

Bluewater Spearfishing

Posted by Venture Wetsuits on

Bluewater spearfishing can be the most boring type of spearfishing at times. Unlike reef diving where there is a lot more life swimming around and nice corals to look at. Blue water is all about patience and capitalizing on opportunity. We normally spearfish blue water less than 300ft of water. Other places we go deeper, a lot deeper!  Drop your flashers, drop some chum and sit and wait. Most times chumming you'll invite a few land lords (sharks) up your chum line. On Oahu, we target Mahi, Ono (Wahoo), Shibi (an Ahi that is less than 100 lbs) and...

The Lost Files: First Dive Trip

Posted by Venture Wetsuits on

The first dive trip I went on with the Venture Crew was memorable nonetheless. We ran into some of the dumbest fish on some of the most untouched grounds.  For whatever reason, the photos and videos from this trip back in 2016 was uploaded on a thumb drive and misplaced. Coming Out Of 3-Prong Retirement w/ Evolve Diving Pole Spear

Posted by Venture Wetsuits on

When I first starting diving I only used three prong. It taught me patience and how to stalk and track fish. Like most of us, I started with a yellow fiberglass 3-prong from Walmart. There were way more misses then hits, but every hit felt so rewarding.   Through time in the water I eventually purchased a gun which I used 99% of the time after that. Only till a few months ago I purchased an Evolve Diving 3-Prong I was stoked to give it a shot after all the great things I heard about this 3-Prong. I bought the collapsible 9ft...

Having new mono on your gun allows your gun to shoot more smoothly with less friction or chances of getting caught on your trigger release or reel line anchor guide. Through many dives your mono will begin to have creases from normal wear and tear and from wrapping your line around the...

Taking drops before the drop. The beginning of Venture Wetsuits.

Posted by Venture Wetsuits on

The first two suits we designed and released were the Roi & Ono wetsuit. The suits arrived a month or two before the official release so the Venture Crew went on a little dive trip for some suit testing, big fish & good times! We geared up, packed extra monofilament & shafts in search of some big game.   I don't know about you, but before any dive I just can't sleep the night before. Especially knowing that the conditions are nice and that you never know what you'll encounter out in the water on any given dive. So we...
