Moʻolelo — Spearfishing

  Bluewater spearfishing can be the most boring type of spearfishing at times. Unlike reef diving where there is a lot more life swimming around and nice corals to look at. Blue water is all about patience and capitalizing on opportunity. We normally spearfish blue water less than 300ft of water. Other places we go deeper, a lot deeper!  Drop your flashers, drop some chum and sit and wait. Most times chumming you'll invite a few land lords (sharks) up your chum line. The first dive trip I went on with the Venture Crew was memorable nonetheless. We ran into some of the dumbest fish on some of the most untouched grounds.  For whatever reason, the photos and videos from this trip back in 2016 was uploaded on a thumb drive and misplaced. Up until now I was able to find all the lost footage and photos from an epic trip with the boys.

When I first starting diving I only used three prong. It taught me patience and how to stalk and track fish. As you get better in spearfishing you'll move up from a three prong pole spear to a speargun. Proper maintenance on your speargun will result in keeping your gun shooting strong and accurate. One thing to always maintain is your monofilament line or shooting line on your gun. Having new mono on your gun allows your gun to shoot more smoothly with less friction or chances of getting caught on your trigger release or reel line anchor guide. The first two suits we designed and released were the Roi & Ono wetsuit. The suits arrived a month or two before the official release so the Venture Crew went on a little dive trip for some suit testing, big fish & good times!
