Coming Out Of 3-Prong Retirement w/ Evolve Diving Pole Spear
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
When I first starting diving I only used three prong. It taught me patience and how to stalk and track fish. Like most of us, I started with a yellow fiberglass 3-prong from Walmart. There were way more misses then hits, but every hit felt so rewarding. Through time in the water I eventually purchased a gun which I used 99% of the time after that. Only till a few months ago I purchased an Evolve Diving 3-Prong I was stoked to give it a shot after all the great things I heard about this 3-Prong. I bought the collapsible 9ft...
Defogging Your New Dive Mask
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
For years I've used the Hammerhead Speargun MV3 GoPro mask with blue tint. I absolutely loved that mask, it fit my face really well. It's a low volume mask that felt comfortable on deeper drops and on those deeper drops when the air in your mask compresses, on the way back up to the surface the air expands giving you just a little taste of air that you can breathe on the way back up. I was able to do that each time without wasting any air or water entering my mask. Of course through heavy use, wear and tear,...
Monofilament On Your Speargun
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
As you get better in spearfishing you'll move up from a three prong pole spear to a speargun. Proper maintenance on your speargun will result in keeping your gun shooting strong and accurate. One thing to always maintain is your monofilament line or shooting line on your gun. Having new mono on your gun allows your gun to shoot more smoothly with less friction or chances of getting caught on your trigger release or reel line anchor guide. Through many dives your mono will begin to have creases from normal wear and tear and from wrapping your line around the...
Hawaiian Goat Fish
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
Some of the tastiest fish to eat in Hawaii is the goat fish. There's the Kumu (White Saddle goat fish), Moana Kali (Blue goat fish) and Munu (Doublebar goat fish). Each of which are fun to hunt and even better to eat. The preferred size to catch is in the 2 to 4 pound range. They get bigger, but very rare to find. Enjoy! Cheap and effective way to spool your fishing reel.
Posted by Venture Wetsuits on
For years I've had a Penn Spinfisher V 10500 reel sitting on the shelf. It's in perfect working condition and I only used it a few times shore casting. It was spooled with green 50lb test line that looked pretty faded and wanted to put that reel back into use for light trolling and for live bait. So, I ordered 80lb braided line and an adjustable fishing spooler. While shopping for the fishing spooler there was a bunch to choose from ranging from $20-$50 and I couldn't see myself spending that much for an item that I'd only be using...
